Photos Of The Proposed DCC Dorm Site & Safety Hazzards

Click photo for a larger image. This was taken from the parking lot at the Allyn J. Wahington Center which overlooks Pine Echo Dr. The college seems to think that the water run off from this hill has nothing to do with the flooding basements in this neighborhood.

Click photo for a larger image. This picture is a wide shot from the one above it.
Click photo for a larger image. This picture is from Cottage Rd. heading towards Creek Rd.. Notice the other crest in the hill. The proposed dorms would be on the left. DCC is on the right.
Click photo for a larger image. This picture is from Cottage Rd. heading towards Rt. 9G. Notice the crest of the hill. The proposed dorms would be on the right. The NYS DOT is on the left.
Click photo for a larger image. This picture shows just how far students would have to "walk" to get to campus. We all know they'll just drive there. Again this was taken from the parking lot by the Allyn J. Washington Center.
Click photo for a larger image. This is a picture driving down Cottage Rd. towards Creek Rd. The road to the right is another entry/exit drive to DCC's Lot D. Most of the evergreen trees straight ahead were cut down the day after these photos were taken. Rumor has it that they were cut down as they interfered with the Central Hudson power lines.
Click photo for a larger image. This is a picture of another curve on Cottage Rd. headed towards Creek Rd. This was taken from the upper exit of DCC parking lot D. Keep in mind there is another entry/exit to DCC parking lot D a little further down on the right.
Click photo for a larger image. This is a picture of the curve coming down Cottage Rd. going towards Creek Rd. The wooded area on the right is where DCC wants to build the dorms.
Click photo for a larger image. This is a picture was taken from the parking lot by the Allyn J. Washington Center of one of the curves on Cottage Rd.

Hello everyone,

Sorry that I haven't updated my blog in a while. School and personal life have kept me from updating. However, that doesn't mean that I haven't been working on things relevant to our fight.

I hope to update the blog this weekend with news articles, photos, and even some video. Please hang in there with me!

Thanks!

Fairness For Fairview Meeting

Hello Everyone,

My thanks to all of you for attending last night's firehouse meeting, and for wanting to be a part of the solution to our fire tax burden.

As many of you know, 80% of the properties in our fire district are tax-exempt, which means they pay no yearly fire tax bill at all...WE PAY IT FOR THEM !

Starting now, we need to draw a line in the sand with all of our elected representatives saying NO MORE !

We need to organize ourselves and demand tax relief from this unfair and crushing burden to the 20% of us who pay the fire tax for the 80% who do not. Our ever-increasing and unaffordable
fire tax is at a crisis level for our residents.

This Monday, April 7, we will meet again at the firehouse at 7:00pm.

At that time I will discuss in greater detail how we will go about starting our push back. Many of you have already begun various efforts in this regard, some circulating petitions, some working online, etc.

I ask that you bring whatever materials or information you have to our meeting so that it can be shared and coordinated amongst us for greatest results.

Between now and then I encourage each of you to speak to your friends and neighbors and ask them to attend as well, as we will need to recruit help in many areas to bring attention to our issue.

Even if some may not live directly in the Fairview Fire district but are willing to help a worthwhile cause, we can use their help as these issues will ultimately affect all residents of Dutchess County.

I look forward to seeing all of you on Monday. Until then I am including some helpful links below for you.

Sincerely,

Kurt Hornick

Volunteers Needed!

I am looking for volunteers to help get the word out about the problems facing the residents in the Fairview Fire District between the out of control taxes and DCC's dorm proposal. You need not be a resident of the Fairview Fire District to help. However, it would be helpful if we can mobilize people who live in the following areas:

Bahret Ave., Buckingham Ave., Chestnut St., Cream St., Creek Rd., Corine Dr., E. Cedar St., Eagle Ln., Fairview Ave., Forest Ave., Fulton St., Hawk Ln., Hawkins St., Hinkley Pl., Inwood Ave., Kelsey Rd., Kohlanaris Dr., Lake St., Lakeview Ave., Oakdale Ave., Pendell Rd., Peter Cooper Dr., Pine Echo Dr., S. Woodlawn Ave., Spring St., Styvestandt Dr., Summit Ave., Treadwell Cir., Van Wyck Dr., Violet Ave., W. Cedar St., Waldorf Pl., Wilmar Ter., Woodlawn Ave. And any road in between these areas.

I am looking for volunteers to go around their neighborhoods to let their neighbors know about the proposed dorms and the burden that they will bring to our area. If it is possible, I would like to get e-mail address for people who are also opposed to the dorm proposal so that I can get information out to our neighbors without incurring additional expenses.

I have received a lot of support from my neighbors in my fight against the dorm proposal. I haven taken time away from my family and my studies in order to fight this. I am also disabled and honestly need all the help I can get from my neighbors in this fight.

If you would like to help, please e-mail me at NODCCDORMS@YAHOO.COM

Thank you for taking the time to read my blog. Our fight isn't over. Let your voice be heard!

Attn: Residents of Creek Rd., Pendell Rd,, Violet Ave., E/W Cedar St., & Fulton St.

I am looking for residents who live on Creek Road, Pendell Road, Violet Avenue, East Cedar Street, West Cedar Street, & Fulton Street who also oppose the DCC dorm proposal. I think the best way we can get people to listen to our plight is to advertise it to the public.

Therefore, I am asking for anyone who lives on these busy roads to put a sign out on their lawn saying "Thanks Dutchess County Legislature & DCC for shafting your neighbors on the dorm proposal"! Of course, you can choose your own wording but I thought that about summed it up.

Thank you for your support!
